The Inez Freewill Baptist Church has served the community of Inez and Martin County for the past 60 years. It got its start in a one room school house in the late 40’s on Rock Castle Creek, Route 3 north of Inez.
The church was officially organized on February 8th, 1952 in the Martin County Courthouse where services were being held on Friday night. Sunday evening services were being conducted at the Castle school house. Wednesday night services were being held in a school on Coldwater.
They were in need of a permanent place to hold church services. On March 24th, 1952 a special meeting was called to discuss plans for building a permanent church house. A motion was made and seconded that the location on Route 40 on G.A. Cassady property be accepted for building the church house.
On August 29th, 1953 a special service was held for the purpose of dedicating the church building to the Lord.
In January 1986, the church suffered a great loss, a fire destroyed the building. The Lord blessed and the church was rebuilt this time with a larger building and also a baptistery was installed.
While the rebuilding was taking place, services were conducted in the auxiliary building. Later on an upstairs was added to the auxiliary building for Sunday school rooms.
Property across the road next to the Martin County swimming pool was purchased and will be developed into a recreation area for the church youth groups.
The Inez Freewill Baptist Church would like to say thanks to all of the founding members, deacons, and to the men that were called by God to deliver his word, giving guidance to those in the church and community.
This is a tribute to those God fearing people who worked so hard for many years to make Inez Freewill Baptist Church what it is today. A House of Prayer where God can be worshiped in spirit and in truth.
“Our Passion and Mission at Inez Free Will Baptist Church is soul winning for Jesus Christ through sharing the gospel, showing Gods love and staying steadfast in prayer. “
